Ukrainian
troops are using a “mobile defense” strategy in the Donbas,
Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said on Ukrainian national
television, commenting on reports of the capture by Russian invaders
of the settlements of Loskutivka and Rai-Oleksandrivka near the city
of Severodonetsk in the Luhansk Oblast.

“Fierce fighting continues in the east,” Malyar said. “So far, the enemy has had a fire advantage, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are inflicting losses on them. (Our forces are) doing everything to prevent encirclement and the advance of the enemy.”

“The situation is difficult – we’re not hiding this. Ukrainian troops are now carrying out a mobile defense, as it is called in the military language, they are changing certain fronts.”

Maylar’s comment came after Ukraine’s General Staff in its morning report said that on the Severodonetsk axis the invaders had captured the settlements of Loskutivka and Rai-Oleksandrivka.

Russian invasion force troops are also preparing to ford the Siverskyi Donets River, the General Staff said.
