Dynamo Kyiv head coach Mircea Lucescu slammed fans of Fenerbahce football club for chanting in support of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin during a third-round Champions League qualifier in Istanbul on July 27.
Fenerbahce fans started the chants after Dynamo scored what turned out to be the winning goal in extra time in a 2-1 victory for the Kyiv side, Turkish football website Fanatik reported.
After the game, Lucescu said that Dynamo’s plan for the game worked, but he was very unhappy with the behavior of the fans of the Istanbul club.
“We cannot accept the behavior of the fans,” said Lucescu.
“I didn’t expect such chants. It’s shameful.”
Lucescu boycotted the press conference after the match against Fenerbahce in protest at the Turkish fans chanting in support of the Russian dictator.
Following their victory, Dynamo Kyiv advanced to the next round of Champions League qualification, where the Ukrainian club faces the Austrian club Sturm Graz
