Fighting in Luhansk Oblast is raging day
and night, regional governor Serhiy Hayday said in a Telegram post on Aug. 14.
“Fighting is ongoing around the clock,” said Hayday.
“After seizing Lysychansk, Russian forces can’t manage to advance and capture an area smaller than (Lysychansk).”
Invading Russian troops are “scorching nearby lands,” as they suffer significant losses for every kilometer of territory they conquer.
Moscow’s forces attempted to assault Spirne and Serebryanka, on the very boundary between Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. Both settlements remain contested, the Ukrainian military says.
“The enemy army was met with Ukrainian fire and withdrew,” said Hayday.
Russian air strikes targeted around 10 Ukrainian towns and villages in region, according to the governor.
“The enemy carried out 15 attacks with rocket and artillery fire against (Ukrainian-held) settlements overnight,” the official added.
