Russian invasion forces have set up a torture chamber in a basement in the city of Kherson, Deputy Chairman of Kherson District Council Stanislav Troshyn claimed on Ukrainian television’s Espresso channel on Aug. 16.
“Now various reports are coming from this building,” Troshyn said.
“Sixty to seventy Kherson residents are kept there. In total, more than 560 people have disappeared since Feb. 24, with more than 60 in this ‘distribution center’. There are a lot of people there.”
Troshyn said the kidnapped mayor of Kherson, Ihor Kolykhaev, is also held captive there by the Russians.
“There are eyewitness reports (of this) from people who came out of there,” Troshyn said.
Troshyn said that Ukrainian activists and former soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, members of the ATO/JFO are being detained by the Russians in terrible conditions.
“They are constantly trying to get some confessions out of these people,” he added.
“People come out with broken ribs, arms, legs. This is a mini analog of ‘Isolation’ in Donetsk (a notorious Russian torture camp in Russian-occupied Donetsk Oblast). This is hard to imagine in the XXI century.”
The mayor of Kherson, Ihor Kolykhaev, was kidnapped by Russian troops on June 28, when he arrived at one of the utility firms where the remaining employees of the city executive committee had been working.
