Oleksandr Tretiak, Ex-Major General of the Security Service of Ukraine, was sentenced, in absentia, to five years in prison for calling to seize state power in 2015. As part of his sentence, his property is subject to forfeiture.
Details: Tretiak was found guilty of conspiring to use mass media to call for a violent regime change, to overthrow Ukraine’s constitutional order and to seize state power (Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He called for the termination of the then-Ukrainian government and [urged viewers] to fight it by all means possible. The video was distributed on the Internet on the same day [it was filmed].”
More details: The Prosecutor General’s Office did not name the convicted person and did not state that the trial took place in absentia.
