A 13-year-old girl is facing a reckless homicide charge after a gun went off, leaving a 16-year-old girl dead, the Memphis Police Department said.
Police responded to the shooting around 8 p.m. Monday at 2737 Curtis St. According to MPD Public Information Officer Major Karen Rudolph, friends were inside a home passing around a gun. The gun fired, hitting the 16-year-old girl.
When officers arrived, they took the 16-year-old to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition. She later died from her injuries.
The 13-year-old girl, whom The Commercial Appeal is not naming because she is currently charged as a juvenile, has been charged with reckless homicide. No one else has been arrested or charged in connection with the shooting.
