Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had
a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, discussing ongoing
French efforts to bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities and the question of
Russian athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, Zelenskyy said in
a Twitter post on Jan. 24.

“In conversation with Emmanuel Macron, I thanked him for the breakthrough decision to provide light tanks and for the further strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities, including with advanced air defense systems,” Zelenskyy said.

The presidents also discussed diplomatic steps to end the war.

Additionally, the Ukrainian president stressed that athletes from Russia have no place at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Previously, Macron said France does not rule out supplying Ukraine with Leclerc main battle tanks in the future.

Following talks between Ukrainian and French presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron on Jan. 4, France agreed to provide Ukraine with AMX-10RC armored vehicles, which are sometimes classified as wheeled tanks – the first instance of armored vehicles of this type to be transferred to Kyiv.
