Poland very much wants Ukraine
to become a member of the European Union in a few years, Polish television news channel TVP Info quoted Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Paweł Jabłoński as
saying on Jan. 29.

According to the official, the upcoming EU-Ukraine summit in Kyiv is an extremely important event since “the desire to block Ukraine’s integration with Europe is the root of Russian aggression.”

“The Ukraine-EU summit shows that this open path to membership, which also took place thanks to the Polish initiative, is something real,” Jabłoński said.

“These are not just empty slogans, but a real will to cooperate. We really want Ukraine to become a member of the European Union in a few years.”

This will also be a realistic prospect if Ukraine is allowed to win the war, the politician added.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Jan. 30 that Ukraine wants to join the European Union within the next two years.

In early February, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and her fellow European Commissioners plan to visit Kyiv for consultations with the Ukrainian government. According to U.S. political news outlet Politico, the delegation may include 10 to 15 EU commissioners.

The Ukraine-EU summit is scheduled for Feb. 3 in Kyiv. The integration of the Ukrainian economy’s sectors into the single European market is among the key issues that will be discussed at the summit.
