Prosecutor's Office asks for house arrest for Kyiv Monastery of Caves abbott

Prosecutors have filed a petition for a preventive measure in the form of round-the-clock house arrest for Metropolitan Pavlo (Lebid), suspected of inciting religious hatred and denying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

Details: The preventive measure will be chosen by the Shevchenko District Court of Kyiv on April 1.

Background: On the same day, it was revealed that the Security Service of Ukraine conducted searches at the home of Metropolitan Pavlo (Lebid). He was served with suspicion notice under Articles 161 (violation of equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability and other grounds) and 436 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and glorification of its participants) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The Metropolitan was taken to court to have a preventive measure chosen for him. He said he had “never been on the side of aggression.”

The Security Service has then shown evidence to refute his words.
