A rainy afternoon at MetLife Stadium gave way to a defensive struggle between the Denver Broncos and New York Jets on Sunday. But the Broncos ultimately came out on top with a 10-9 win on the road.
The Broncos defense made a Jets offense quarterbacked by four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, who has spent much of his career playing in the elements of Green Bay, look inept at handling the conditions.
The Broncos held the Jets to 248 total yards of offense, just 64 rushing yards, and an average of 3.5 yards per play. The Jets converted just four of their 17 third-down attempts, and Rodgers completed just 24 of his 42 pass attempts. They held the Jets’ offense to scoring on just three field goals.

Denver’s defensive line came up especially strong, sacking Rodgers five times during the game, keeping the 40-year-old from getting comfortable during the game.
Thanks to the defensive performance, the Broncos pulled out with the win despite the lack of support from the offense. The Broncos offense finished with only 186 total yards, including just 60 passing yards from rookie quarterback Bo Nix. Nix’s 60 passing yards were the fewest by a quarterback in a win with at least 20 pass attempts since 2007, when former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw for 59 yards in a win, per ESPN stats and info.

Nix’s performance will likely not go down as one of the best in his career, but he ultimately did enough to help his team to a win. He led a touchdown drive toward the end of the third quarter, throwing an eight-yard touchdown to wide receiver Courtland Sutton. The Broncos would score again on a field goal in the fourth quarter, while the Jets would miss a field goal in the final minute to seal the win for Denver.
