Ukraine receives US$1 billion from Japan and the UK

Ukraine has received US$1 billion from Japan and the United Kingdom.

Quote: “The tranche was received under the guarantees of the governments of these countries as part of the World Bank’s Development Policy Loan mechanism,” Shmyhal said.

He said the funds will be directed towards “strengthening the economy and financing priority expenditures in the social and humanitarian sectors”.

Background:

  • The Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) completed the sixth review of the extended funding programme for Ukraine and approved the allocation of a new tranche of US$1.1 billion.  
  • Ukraine received US$1.1 billion from the IMF.
