WASHINGTON, D.C. (WAVY) — Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said extensive resources from Virginia “are fully supporting” search and rescue efforts following a midair collision between an American Airlines aircraft and a military Blackhawk helicopter Wednesday night near Reagan National Airport.

Youngkin said he had been briefed by the state’s emergency management team and Virginia State Police about the crash.
Reagan National Airport will be closed at least until Friday morning.
Rep. Bobby Scott said he was monitoring the situation and shared a statement on the social media platform, X.
Sen. Mark Warner posted a similar statement.
An American Airlines flight that was supposed to leave Reagan National Airport for Norfolk International Airport Wednesday evening was canceled.
A planned ribbon-cutting Thursday for the return of moving walkways at Norfolk International has been canceled.
