Pregnant Couple Told Baby Is Girl Buy Everything Pink, Then Get Surprise

They thought they were having a girl.

A pregnant couple told Newsweek they were twice told they would be having a girl, so they purchased pink clothing and prepared a pink bedroom, and were left understandably shocked when their baby finally arrived.

Americans have historically had a preference for having a boy over a girl. The most recent Gallup Poll on the subject found 36 percent of respondents would rather have a boy compared with 28 percent who would rather have a girl. In the UK, older cultural norms placed importance on having a son to carry on the family name, but studies show a narrowing gap in gender preference.

As the big day arrived, the couple received yet more confirmation that they were having a girl. “We had a scan at 8 months for growth concerns and the baby was referred to as her,” McGann said.

Yet, when the day finally came for them to meet their new baby, McGann and her husband were told something they did not expect to hear: it’s a boy.

In fact, she said they took a little convincing at first, having been so sure of the gender after multiple confirmations. “The surgeons showed him to us naked to show it was indeed a boy after we had told them it was a girl,” McGann said.

The couple were surprised and they were not alone in expressing shock at how…
