The event featured a number of celebrity athletes including Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor.
“An important side note: Taylor is also a registered sex offender,” Colbert pointed out.
Colbert mockingly congratulated Trump on having Taylor by his side at the White House.
“Mr. President, that is a brilliant way to distance yourself from the whole Epstein scandal,” Colbert said, then broke out his impression of the president trying to steer the conversation away from his former friend, the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“I fully renounce everything Jeff did ’cuz now I’m hanging out with a completely different registered sex offender,” Colbert said in his Trump voice. “And we’re just here to make sure our teenagers are very fit.”
“I agree,” Colbert said in response.
