Polestar 3 gets a Guinness World Record for range, but there’s a catch

Back in July, the Lucid Air Grand Touring received an official Guinness World Record for the longest journey by an electric car on a single charge – it was 1,205 km.

Today, the Polestar 3 has received its own Guinness World Record for range, but this one is for the longest journey traveled by an electric SUV on a single charge. Spot the qualifier? It’s the longest for an electric SUV.

So the Lucid is still the EV that went the furthest on one charge, while the Polestar 3 is the furthest-going electric SUV, having managed to achieve a distance of 935.44 km on one charge. That’s a far cry from what the Lucid accomplished, and their battery capacities are almost identical at 111kWh vs. 112kWh, so the difference is all in the drivetrain and the aerodynamics.

The Polestar 3’s record-setting journey took 22 hours and 57 minutes to complete in mixed weather conditions including rain. The car achieved an efficiency of 12.1kWh/100km or 19.5kWh/100 miles. The car reached its 706 km WLTP range with 20% of its battery capacity still remaining and delivered an extra 12.8 km after showing 0% battery.

Just as was the case for the Lucid, Polestar has given us absolutely zero details about the speed at which the car was driven, which, if you’ve ever taken a look at our consumption charts, you know influences range a whole lot.
