Paul Mescal thinks it is “crazy” that he’s hung out with Sir Paul McCartney.
Paul Mescal will play Sir Paul McCartney
The 29-year-old actor will portray the legendary musician in director Sir Sam Mendes’ upcoming four Beatles films and he’s confirmed he’s been lucky enough to spend time with the “extraordinary” singer as part of his research.
Asked if he’s met McCartney, he said: “I have, yeah. He’s an extraordinary man, like to spend any time— it’s a crazy sentence to say that I’ve spent time with that man, let alone play him.”
And the Normal People star confirmed he’ll be recording his own vocals for the films.
Asked if he’ll do his own singing, he said: “Yeah, yeah, absolutely yeah.”
The movies will also star Barry Keoghan as Sir Ringo Starr, Harris Dickinson as the late John Lennon and Joseph Quinn as the late George Harrison.
And Barry previously recalled how he “couldn’t look at” the drummer, let alone show off his musical skills, when they first met.
Speaking on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, the Banshees of Inisherin actor said: “I met him at his house, and he played the drums for me. He asked me to play, but I wasn’t playing the drums for Ringo.
“And when I was talking to him, I couldn’t look at him. I was nervous, like right now. But he’s like, ‘You can look at me.'”
The 32-year-old actor doesn’t want to just “imitate” Ringo in his performance but is keen to “study” the musician as much as he can.
