The Bronco Sport can quickly turn into an off-road menace
While not mechanically tied to its larger sibling, the Ford Bronco Sport truly looks like a baby Bronco. That resemblance has worked wonders — the Sport actually outsells the full-size Bronco, moving 124,701 units in the U.S. last year. For 2025, sales look even stronger. The formula is obvious: it’s more affordable, easier to live with day-to-day, more fuel efficient, and still reasonably capable off-road. If you also spring for the Badlands trim, it becomes one of the most rugged crossovers in its class.

What is the Bronco Sport Badlands?
The Badlands comes with the top-spec 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, good for 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Power runs through an 8-speed automatic with a rotary dial gear selector and paddle shifters. Standard drive modes include Normal, Eco, Sand, Slippery, and Sport, with Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl added for serious terrain.
Its advanced twin-clutch rear drive unit can actively shift torque side-to-side, mimicking a locking differential — something you almost never see in this segment. Add in metal bash plates, off-road suspension, beefier bumpers with hooks, and all-terrain tires, and you’ve got a small SUV that backs up its looks. The downside? That hardware and rolling resistance ding efficiency to 21 mpg city / 27 mpg highway.

Rugged outside, mixed inside
Visually, the Badlands nails it. The taller stance, knobby tires, and tough bumpers give it a legit off-road profile. Many will like the bolt-on components and the swagger of the little guy because it makes a statement. Even the 17-inch aluminum wheels look the part. It projects capability before you even turn the key.
Inside, the picture is less rosy. While you get rubberized textures, wipe-clean plastics, and a tough aesthetic, the materials feel budget-grade compared to rivals at this price point.
