The accident report for the Aug. 18 crash said it occurred at 9:26 p.m. when Henry was struck by a 2009 Chevrolet Impala driven by Juan Valentin Ceja, 23, of Topeka, who was alone in his car.

Henry was taken to a Topeka hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Ceja suffered a possible injury in the crash, the accident report said.

Driver said pedestrian ‘jumped out’ in front of his car

Ceja told police he had been driving northbound when a man “jumped out” in front of his car and was struck, the accident report said.

Ceja said he thought the man came onto the roadway from his right, to the east, it said.

The report added: “Unknown what the pedestrian was doing prior to the crash. There were no witnesses to the crash.”

Ceja showed no evidence of impairment, and no impairment test was given to Ceja, the report said. Henry also showed no evidence of impairment.

It listed no citations as having been issued.
