49ers Set to Get Back Key Offensive Playmaker for Jaguars Game

San Francisco 49ers WR Demarcus Robinson

Three games into the season and the injuries keep piling up for the San Francisco 49ers.

The team has already lost star pass-rusher Nick Bosa to a season-ending ACL injury, Pro Bowl tight end George Kittle is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, and quarterback Brock Purdy has missed the last two games while battling turf toe.

But in the last few days, San Francisco has seen several other key players land on the injury report including wide receivers Jauan Jennings (ankle/shoulder), Ricky Pearsall (knee), and Jordan Watkins (calf), quarterback Mac Jones (knee), guard Connor Colby, cornerbacks Deommodore Lenoir (illness) and Renardo Green (neck), and defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos.

With the number of players available for this weekend’s matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars dropping by the day, the 49ers did get a bit of good news on Thursday as the team activated wide receiver Demarcus Robinson from the suspended list, per Pro Football Talk.

Robinson was suspended for the first three games of the year for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

The 30-year-old receiver signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the 49ers in March following a two-year run with the Los Angeles Rams.

Robinson has totaled 250 receptions, 3,013 yards, and 27 touchdowns in his eight-year NFL career, which has included stops with the Rams, Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens.

Adding Robinson to the 53-man roster couldn’t have come at a better time for San Francisco.

General manager John Lynch recently told reporters that All-Pro WR Brandon Aiyuk isn’t close to returning as he continues to recover from torn ACL and MCL injuries, and Pearsall’s status is in question given his injury during Thursday’s practice is a new one.

Pearsall, who logged 16 catches for 281 yards, is the 49ers’ leading receiver. No other wideout on the roster has more than nine receptions, and the bulk of San Francisco’s passing attack has run through running back Christian McCaffrey, who has a team-high 25 catches for 213 yards and a touchdown.

It’s possible Robinson could end up being the 49ers’ No. 1 or 2 WR this weekend against the Jags with an injury ravaged WR corps that also features Kendrick Bourne, Marquez Valdes-Scantling,…
