Journalists say that Oleksandra was at home with her mother at the time of the strike. Her father arrived later, after the attack. Her mother was taken to hospital with severe injuries and is reportedly in a serious condition.

“It hit their flat directly. The girl was so cheerful – she did sports, studied English. So active. She’d been to Canada. They’d been abroad and returned to go to school. Such a wonderful child. It’s just a shock,” a neighbour of the family said.

Details: Oleksandra’s classmates have been bringing candles, flowers and toys to her destroyed home.

Residents of the damaged building said the nearest shelter is about a kilometre away, and their basement is not equipped as a bomb shelter.

Background: On the night of 28 September, Russian forces launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine using 643 aerial weapons. Over 70 people were injured across the country, and some strikes devastated entire residential districts.
