Zelenskyy welcomes UN sanctions on Iran, calls for similar measures against Russia over nuclear threat

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has welcomed the UN Security Council’s decision to reinstate sanctions against Iran and stressed the need for similar actions against Russia for turning the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) into a global threat.

Details: Zelenskyy recalled that Tehran had for years ignored the demands of the IAEA and the international community, thereby undermining the global nuclear order. He stated that any country threatening international peace and security should immediately face strict sanctions.

Zelenskyy emphasised that Russia “is on the same page as Iran” and it had seized a Ukrainian nuclear plant along with its nuclear materials and effectively turned the Zaporizhzhia NPP into a global nuclear threat.
