Gayheart spoke about the impact the diagnosis has had on their children, who are “taking it day by day,” in a candid interview with People magazine, published on Saturday.
“We have some professional therapists who are helping us, and we’re just trying to have some hope and do it with dignity, grace and love,” she told the outlet. Dane and Gayheart share daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.
“I mean, it’s heartbreaking. My girls are really suffering, and we’re just trying to get through it. It’s a tough time,” she added.
He told People magazine at the time he was “grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”

“I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening,” he said of living with the incurable condition.
He told Sawyer back in June that his right hand had “completely stopped working” and that he was down to “one functioning arm.” Dane shared that he felt like his left arm only had “a few more months” of function.
