A Ukrainian man, Volodymyr Z., who was detained in Poland, is considered by German investigators to be one of the perpetrators of the explosions that damaged Russia’s Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in September 2022.

Details: In its statement, the Prosecutor’s Office described Volodymyr Z. as a “qualified diver” who was part of the group that placed explosive devices on the Nord Stream pipelines.

The Ukrainian national is accused of detonating an explosive device as part of a group, carrying out anti-constitutional sabotage, and causing the destruction of buildings.
The Prosecutor’s Office added that after Volodymyr Z. is extradited from Poland, he will have to appear before an investigating judge of the federal court.

It was earlier reported that the Ukrainian man, wanted under a European arrest warrant issued by a German court, had been detained in Pruszków, Poland.

During interrogation, Volodymyr Z. denied taking part in the sabotage operation in the Baltic Sea three years ago.

The case appears to concern Volodymyr Zhuravlov, for whom Germany issued an arrest warrant in June 2024. Berlin had sent Poland a European arrest warrant in his case.
