The “Late Night” host turned to a clip of the center’s new chairman — Trump — claiming that he initially dismissed the gig.
″‘Are you fools asking me to do that?’ ‘Sir, you’ll get much higher ratings.’ I said, ‘I don’t care. I’m president of the United States. I won’t do it,’” recalled Trump at a rambling press conference where he announced the center’s 2025 honorees.
He continued, “They said, ‘Please.’ And then [Kennedy Center board member and White House Chief of Staff] Susie Wiles said to me, ‘Sir, I’d like you to host.’ I said, ‘OK, Susie, I’ll do it.’”
Meyers swiftly gave his two cents on the tale.
“Well, I think you deserve the award for Best Original Screenplay because that’s definitely a fake conversation that did not happen,” quipped Meyers before launching into his Trump impression.
“They said, ‘Sir, we want you to host.’ And I said, ‘You’re fools! I’m so busy!’ And they said, ‘The ratings would be huge because everyone loves you.’ And I said, ‘That’s true.’ And then I said, ‘What will I wear?’ And they said, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll make a special tuxedo that’s big enough for your incredibly large penis.’”
Moments earlier, Meyers argued that Trump was “definitely not joking” when he used the presser to suggest that he’d honor himself at next year’s ceremony.
