Cade Horton Injury Updates Take Unexpected Turn With Latest News

The Chicago Cubs mishandling of information surrounding injuries been quite bizarre this season.

First, it was Kyle Tucker and the mishandling of his calf injury. Now, it’s with rookie starting pitcher Cade Horton.

Horton left Tuesday’s start due to what the team announced as precautionary measures, but the situation has now gotten much worse. Saturday, Horton was diagnosed a right rib fracture and placed on the 15-day injured list. The announcement came just a couple of hours after Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters that everything was going well with Horton.

Horton is more than likely going to win the National League Rookie of the Year award and was likely in line to start Game 1 of Chicago’s wild card series against the San Diego Padres. He will now not be eligible to return to action until Game 5 of the NLDS, if the Cubs are still in the postseason at that point.

It is just another example of what’s been a season’s worth of frustration surrounding injuries to some of Chicago’s top players. It cost Tucker 17 games, and now it is going to cost Horton a chance to pitch in the postseason during his rookie season.

Chicago will now likely have left-handers Shota Imanaga and Matthew Boyd pitching in Game’s 1 and 2 of the wild card series. If the series goes to a Game 3, there is no indication on who would start that game for the Cubs.
