Team Amber Heard expect Johnny Depp attorneys to “pound away on the victim” as trial resumes

With the Depp v Heard trial set to resume today (May 16th, 2022) at 9am Eastern Time (2pm BST), a spokesperson for Amber Heard has released a statement laying out their expectations of what’s to come as Heard faces her cross-examination.

They said: “There’s an old saying by trial lawyers: when the facts are on your side, argue the facts. When the facts are not on your side, pound away on the podium. Today, we expect Depp’s attorneys will instead pound away on the victim. We fear it will be equal parts shameful and desperate. And, the overwhelming evidence — the truth — is not on Depp’s side.

“The one thing we suspect Depp’s attorneys will avoid is the central issue of this trial: does Amber or any woman have the First Amendment Right of Freedom of Speech.”

With just two weeks left of the libel trial, there are a number of possible outcomes for everybody involved.

“Both sides have done a fair job at exposing the other’s less than finer moments”, libel and slander expert Kimberly Lau explained to Sky News.

“What will make this trial particularly challenging for a jury is the fact that both parties are trained actors whose job is to make the audience believe they are, in fact, the role they play.

“The testimony of the witnesses and documentary evidence will be even more essential for the jury to determine who is really telling the truth and who may be merely acting out a role.”

As Depp continues to deny all allegations of physical abuse and accusing Heard of being the violent one in their relationship, he is suing his former wife for libel over an article she wrote in The Washington Post back in December 2018. In there, Heard said she had been abused in the past, but never mentioned Depp’s name.
