The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t done spending after an already massive offseason. Philadelphia has agreed to terms with free agent forward KJ Martin on a two-year contract that is worth $16 million. NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the one to break the news of the agreement between the two sides.

Martin, the son of former NBA forward Kenyon Martin, spent most of last season with the 76ers after being acquired in the trade that sent star guard James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers. He only played two games for Los Angeles, appearing in 58 for the 76ers. Martin averaged 3.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 0.3 steals per game for Philadelphia this past season.
The young wing had his best season during the 2022-23 season while with the Houston Rockets. He averaged 12.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 steals per contest over 82 games played. The 76ers are hoping that he can give them some of that level of production throughout the season. He isn’t a 3-point shooter, which limits his offensive attack, but Martin makes up for it by being an athletic wing on defense. Martin is also only 23 years old still so he has plenty of time to continue developing and growing his game.
The 76ers set out to build a more competitive team this offseason after falling short in the postseason once again. Bringing back Martin gives them some continuity among the major roster moves that the organization has done this summer. The 76ers made the big splash of the offseason, landing star forward Paul George in free agency on a four-year, $212 million deal. George comes in to pair up with star center Joel Embiid and guard Tyrese Maxey, who signed his own massive contract extension. Maxey landed a five-year contract that is worth $204 million.
