Kiefer Sutherland doesn’t believe he is a nepo baby.
The 57-year-old actor is the son of late Hollywood legend Donald Sutherland, 88, and although he is “aware of how fortunate” he is, Kiefer thinks it makes sense that people with actor parents will follow in their footsteps.
He told Metro.co.uk: “So the part of the argument that I kind of don’t understand is if I look at James and sons, the best carpenters in the business. Yeah, it’s like, no one’s got a problem with his two sons being carpenters because he was a carpenter! It’s what you’re exposed to.
“I’m aware of how fortunate I am. I left home at 15 years old and moved to New York and went to theatre school, and I was already working then. They actually kicked me out of theatre school.”
And, Kiefer believes his time on the TV show ’24’ – where he played special agent Jack Bauer on the hit show from 2001 to 2010 – helped to make him a better actor.
He said: “If you want to make it to the Olympics, you train every day. Right? And if you want to develop and really become a better actor you have to work every day. And ’24’ afforded me that opportunity.
“I love the character. And I love the show. And I love the people that I got to make it with. So there wasn’t a downside.”
