“The Daily Show” guest host Desi Lydic clowned New York City Mayor Eric Adams over his affinity for clubbing Thursday before turning to the federal charges he faces related to alleged bribery, conspiracy, wire fraud and soliciting illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals.
“Can someone check if there’s bottle service at Rikers?” the comedian joked.
The five-count federal indictment alleges that Adams, a former New York City police department captain, “not only accepted, but sought illegal campaign contributions” for his 2021 mayoral campaign. He’s the city’s first mayor to be criminally charged while in office.
Lydic joked that New Yorkers know how much Adams follows the law because he “tells us all the time.”
She then declared that Adams says he’s in “trouble” for “simply caring too much” before turning to his pre-recorded video statement released prior to the unsealing of his indictment.
“I always knew that if I stood my ground for all of you that I would be a target. And a target I became,” said Adams, who described the charges as “entirely false” in the video on Wednesday.

Lydic acted overwhelmed by the embattled mayor’s remarks.
“Oh, my God. You did that for us? Oh. Oh, my God. Oh, my God,” said Lydic as she pretended to wipe away tears.
“And I knew it. I knew that when you said the city should put garbage in garbage cans, they would come after you,” she added. “I knew it and they did. They did.”
