The European Union is “deeply alarmed” by reports that North Korea is sending soldiers to fight in the all-out Russian invasion of Ukraine, said the bloc’s top diplomat Josep Borrell.
“It would be a unilateral hostile act by the DPRK with serious consequences for European and global peace and security,” said the statement published by Borrell on behalf of the 27 EU member states.
“This development also illustrates once again how Russia is spreading instability and escalation in the region and across the globe,” Borrell continued.
Russia’s deepening military cooperation with North Korea sends the message that “despite its stated readiness to negotiate,” Russia is not interested in peace, Borrell said.
“On the contrary, Russia is escalating and desperately seeking any help for its war,” he added.
