Gov. Andy Beshear urged residents to stay safe during his weekly Team Kentucky news conference as weather forecasts predict snow and gusty winds making their way into portions of central Kentucky Thursday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service of Louisville expects most local areas to receive roughly an inch of snowfall, with some areas getting closer to two inches. Beshear said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet road crews have begun treating roads in areas expected to be impacted by the incoming weather.
A winter weather advisory has been issued along the Interstate 75 corridor and other counties east of Louisville, though snowfall and winds up to 35 mph could make for hazardous driving conditions within the city, as a wave of snow and wind is expected to reach Louisville in time for rush hour.
Roads aren’t expected to be slick, NWS of Louisville meteorologists predict, but the mix of snow and wind could obstruct visibility during afternoon commutes.
“Take your time. Getting somewhere safely is more important than getting somewhere quickly,” Beshear said.
Beshear urged residents not to panic, but to simply exercise caution, as the snow showers are expected to pass overnight.
“It’s just one snow shower that’s coming, but do be extra careful out there. We’ve been through a lot. We don’t want to lose anybody in a snow shower,” Beshear said.
