Drones attack Russia's Rostov Oblast

Drones attacked Rostov Oblast in Russia on the night of 5 January. The wreckage of the downed drones damaged residential buildings and cars in several settlements in the oblast.

Details: Slyusar said that the drone wreckage fell in the city of Taganrog and the village of Novobessergenovka in the Neklinovsky district. As a result, residential buildings were damaged – windows were smashed, roofs and walls were damaged. The wreckage also damaged several cars.

He said there were no casualties and no fires.

Background:

  • On 23 December, Russians reported a drone attack on the city of Millerovo in Russia’s Rostov Oblast, from where Russian troops launch attack drones during their aerial attacks on Ukraine.
  • On the night of 18-19 December, the Ukrainian Navy and the Security Service of Ukraine, in cooperation with other units of the defence forces, attacked the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Products Plant in Rostov Oblast, which is the only refinery in the region and provides fuel to the Russian army.
  • On 4 January, the Russian state-run RIA Novosti news agency said that a Ukrainian drone hit a car on the Donetsk-Horlivka highway, killing a freelance correspondent for Izvestia, Alexander Martemyanov, and injuring five other representatives of the Russian media.
  • During the night of 4 January, drones attacked Russia’s largest seaport, Ust-Luga, in Leningrad Oblast.
