“The Gen-Z Allure Of Being a ‘SAHG’” drastically understates the financial risk to women who are stay-at-home girlfriends and have little or no legal protections (Personal Journal, Dec. 28).
I know of a construction worker killed in a catastrophic accident at a building site. His stay-at-home girlfriend instantly lost her home, her car and her financial means. She had no right to the trade union’s payout, no right to file a liability claim, no right to a payout related to his Social Security or pension. In addition to having no guaranteed right to their boyfriends’ finances, girlfriends risk their own future retirement owing to reduced Social Security and 401(k) contributions. And presumably their health-insurance premiums cost more without an employer’s contribution.
