Will Young was moved to tears after a homeless man he’d befriended came to watch him perform.

The 45-year-old singer told the audience at his intimate ‘Light It Up’ show at London’s Cadogan Hall on Wednesday (27.11.24) to show compassion towards those sleeping on the streets, particularly in the winter months, and was left lost for words when a person he’d invited to the concert confirmed he’d made it to the audience.

Will said: “I’ve been having a chat for the last few days with someone who found themselves homeless and I invited them…”

As the man shouted he was there, the ‘Leave Right Now’ singer smiled but grew emotional and said: “Did you come? I’m very moved that you’ve come, thank you so much…

“Sometimes you walk past people and don’t know what’s going on there and you can pass judgement but particularly at this time of year – it gets so cold – and please just know it’s not their fault that they are there.

“I’m so thrilled you could be here tonight, do think of the people who are living on the streets…”

He then noted: “It’s very hard to cry and sing at the same time.”

The concert was part of the ‘Pop Idol’ winner’s intimate tour, in which he was just joined by a keyboard player as he sang a selection of his classic hits, including ‘Evergreen’, ‘Jealousy’ and ‘Light My Fire’, as well as songs from his latest album ‘Light It Up’, including ‘Midnight’, ‘Falling Deep’ and the title track, interspersed with answering questions from fans.

Reading out one question from a fan named Janice, Will laughed as he said: “I’ve already decided one of my funeral songs will be ‘Leave Right Now’.”
